First Session Begins Spring of 2008

Our Learn to Row class is intended and designed to introduce the students to the enjoyment that can be found in the sport of rowing, whether the individual is interested in increasing their basic fitness or progressing to competitive rowing.

Learn to Row Session begins in the Spring. Contact prra.row3@verizon.net for more information & to register.

During the class, students are taught water safety, boat handling, and rowing technique by experienced coaches. Our sessions are a healthy combination of classroom introduction and rowing on the water – with the added element of a relaxed atmosphere to ensure all participants have fun.

Coxswain with Class

Coach Jeff Lam teaching indoor rowing

The class begins with the ever popular (and humorous) Safety Video, followed by land based instruction on rowing machines. After the individual has had a chance to understand and have comfort with the basic mechanics of the stroke, we bring a boat to the dock and get the feel of rowing in the boat.... while still at the dock. This is where the excitement for the sport of rowing usually gets its initial spark. Once the coach feels that it is safe to row, the newly formed "novice" crew pushes off of the dock for their first row. Not to worry, the boat will always contain experienced rowers so the students can use them as examples. Coaching is done from an accompanying launch. We also utilize video taping to help the students further understand the stroke and their personal development needs. The enrollment fee is $150 for a three to four week class.

Participants should plan to attend all 9 classes. Class size will be limited to 10 participants and will be filled on a first come first serve basis. Please download an application and send it along with your check for $150 to reserve your place. Everyone MUST be able to swim. No refunds will be given once the lessons begin. Any Questions please contact Gail at prra.row3@verizon.net
