Members are asked to make
themselves familiar with the safety procedures and attend safety clinics
offered by the club.
WATER SAFETY
Exercise good judgment in deciding to launch in windy, stormy conditions.
Do not launch if there are white caps in the river, if there is thunder
and lightning occurring in the vicinity, or if the fog is so thick that
you cannot see well past the end of the dock. Do not launch if you do
not feel confident of handling theboat
even under milder conditions or the weather forecast is predicting adverse
conditions.
In the case where bad weather conditions develop while a boat is on the
water, the coxswain or bow person will immediately steer the boat back
to the boat house following safe traffic patterns. Coaches and Open Row
Staff will stay with the boats until the last boat has safely docked.
If conditions getting severe attempt to row to the closest shore and beach
the shell. Seek shelter. Call the boathouse for help or 911 if you need
emergency assistance.
In case you are witness to an accident in which other crews are involved,
assist to the best of your capabilities.
Novice and Intermediate crews are not to go beyond the 1 mile marker without
a coach accompanying them.
In the case of an accident or collision involving PRRA boats, the crew
is to immediately row back to the dock and check both rowers and equipment
for injury/damage. If equipment is damaged a sign should be attached to
a rigger indicating that it is not to be rowed. The bow or cox should
write up the incident and suspected damage on the repair log.
It is the responsibility of the entire crew to be aware of their position
in the lanes of traffic and, in the case of coxless boats, to help the
bow person keep the boat on point.
Everyone is responsible for
being attentive to the coxswain or bow person during practices and to
follow their commands immediately.
During cold weather period: stay close to shore; stay in company of another
rower/crew
